One Week Old!

8/28/09

I can't even believe my precious little baby turned one week old today! It seems like just yesterday she was in my belly! It is amazing how much she has changed from day one. Her dark hair has lightened, her nose isn't as squished, she is learning how to grasp Mommy and Daddy's hands, she mimics Daddy when he raises his eye brows, and she has even learned that if she holds her hands up to her mouth when she is sucking on her pacifier that it will stay in her mouth! It's also fun to see that she has both elements of me and Daddy in her. She has my nose, chin, feet, and my "curly toe", but has Jim's eyelashes, toes, frown, and hair! She is so cute and perfect in EVERY way! I just can't keep my eyes off her!

So sad!

To the Park We Go!

8/27/09

On Thursday Jim and I decided we needed to get out of the house for a little while, so we decided to take Baby Jocelyn on her first walk to the park! She seemed to really enjoy the walk in the stroller because she slept all the way there. She did wake up when we got there and was very cute while she curiously looked at her new surroundings! It was really nice to get outside the house and I'm sure she loved the fresh air!

First Bath at Home!

8/26/09

Baby Jocelyn had her first bath at home today! After having an explosion in her diaper last night, she definitley needed one! It was much easier than I thought it would be and I was surprised that she didn't seem to mind it all that much, which is a good thing! The only part where she really got fussy was when I was trying to wash her hair, but it was rather cute! All in all I'm sure she enjoyed it because she was definitley happier when we were all done. =0)

Baby's First Doctor's Appointment

8/24/09

Because we had such an aweful first night at home and I was so worried, I decided to call Jocelyn's pediatrician bright and early this morning to make an appointment. Unfortunately there were no openings to see the doctor, however we were able to see the nurse practicioner. She was very nice and very helpful! Although Baby did look jaundicey and she los a little more weight, the nurse seemed very pleased overall with how Jocelyn looked. This was very comforting after our long night! She did say to keep up with the formula, especially until my milk comes in. In her words, we would rather have a healthy formua baby than a dehydrated breastfed baby! Overall it was a great appointment in my mind! Like I said, it was very comforting and made me feel alot better about feeding Jocelyn formula rather than just breastmilk!

First Night Home

8/24/09

What a tough night we had! I think I only got about 40 minutes of sleep because I was so worried about Baby Jocelyn! The beginning of the night went smoothly, but after about 9pm everything went downhill. I don't remember exactly how it started, but she must have been really tired because when we tried waking her for her next feeding she would wake up, latch on, suck once or twice, then completely crash. This went on for about 5 hours when I noticed that her tounge was hetting really dry and her lips started getting chapped... the furst sugns of dehydration. Thats when I went from my saddness/frustration mode to worried/panic mode. We kept trying for about another half hour when finally I remembered that we had some sample formula and was able to get that i n her system. I really wanted to try to exclusively breastfeed, but when it comes down to what I want and what she needs, what she needs wins hands down, no questions asked!

All in all it was a very long and stressfull night, but just a minor bump in the road. We are now feeding Baby Jocelyn mainly formula and still trying to breastfeed. The hard part is that my milk still hasn't come in yet, but we're hoping that when it does Jocelyn will enjoy eating what mommy feeds her more so that we can both benefit from all that breastfeeding and breastmilk has to offer!

Finally Home

8/23/09

Today we were able to come home! Jocelyn is doing awesome and so is her mommy. They both have been very tired and taking long naps. Jocelyn has great color to her skin and is alert from time to time, but for the most part she just wants to sleep in her mommies arms.

Hopefully tonight will go as well as the whole day has and Jocelyn plus mom gets some sleep and some food in their bellies. Check back soon for more pictures and update on how Jocelyn and Mom are doing at home!

Our Sweet Baby Girl Is Here!

8/21/09

After laboring at home for a good four or more hours, laboring in the hospital for five hours, pushing for two hours, and NO medical intervention, Baby Jocelyn graced us with her presence! I can honestly say that giving birth is the hardest thing I have ever done, and even though it was by far the most painful, it was worth EVERY second and I wouldn't change it or Baby Jocelyn for the world! I will never forget such an amazing experience! Of course I don't think it would have been possible without my amazing birth support group! A big THANK YOU to Jim, my mom, Amanda my doula, Gaylene my nurse, Dr. Strubel, and the other nurses who were there whom I can't remember your names! Thanks you for helping my gorgeous baby girl into this world!
